The fight for the 19th Congressional District has now become the fight for the 4th! Governor Corbett signed the bill into law from the Pennsylvania legislature just days before Christmas. The new 4th District still includes all of Adams and York Counties and loses parts of Cumberland County, but it now also adds all of Harrisburg City.

Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope that you can find the time to sit back, relax, and enjoy some of your time during the busy holiday season. Decorating, buying presents, preparing dinners, and everything else that goes with this time of year should emphasize what is really important – spending time with your family and friends. I also want to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year that is filled with hope that our government can be returned to a limited, constitutional one, and that our long lost liberties can be returned to us.

Congressman Platts became a co-sponsor of several bills this week. None of these bills will attempt to fix any of the major problems with our economy, federal government or restore liberty. The bills that he became a co-sponsor of are:

It has been a few weeks since the 2011 election and yet it seems like forever as Manuel, myself and others have not missed a beat in preparing for next years campaigns.
Mike Koffenberger - Libertarian Candidate U.S. House of Representatives District 19 PAOther than the debate in the House over the proposed Balanced Budget Amendment (which I discussed in last week’s report), not much of consequence happened again this week. Therefore, a return visit to Congressman Platts’ voting record will take place in this week’s edition.
Yet again, this week provided no new bills that Congressman Platts sponsored or co-sponsored. What I will discuss this week is a guest column written by Congressman Platts for the local papers entitled, “Force U.S. To Balance its Budget.”
Due to internet web site issues, a list of current co-sponsored/sponsored bills from the past week could not be obtained. Therefore a past vote of Congressman Platts’ will be explored in this report. The vote that will be discussed is Congressman Platts’ vote for the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.
Congressman Platts became a co-sponsor of H.R. 1254 with 15 other Republicans and 6 Democrats. This bill would amend the Controlled Substances Act to place synthetic drugs in Schedule 1. Scheduled drugs are those that are considered illegal in your possession (unless you have a prescription for certain ones). Schedule 1 drugs include heroin and marijuana.

Other than co-sponsoring a bill to authorize minting of a silver commemorative coin (which should be everyday legal tender in the United States), the past week did not have much legislative activity to discuss. Since President Obama ordered the withdrawal of all troops from Iraq by the end of the year, and Congressman Platts voted for “using force” in Iraq in 2002, I will discuss this topic for this week’s Platts Report.
One bill in which Congressman Platts was the primary sponsor on this week is HR 3234: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow penalty-free withdrawals from pension plans.
Concerns are growing with regards to Congressman Todd Platts’ voting record. Just this past week, conservative blogger Erick Erickson called for Platts to be replaced, calling him a ‘restrictor of free speech’ and ‘pathetic on education issues’. As many of you already know, we here in the 19th district have been keen and consistent in pointing out these very same shortcomings.
